Are you ready to become comfortable with the sound of your own voice?

JACK MCGEEVER
LMHC, MA, NCC
To potenital clients, a word, if I may:

Who Me?
As a gay man, I'm all too familiar with masking. We do it to gain social and romantic success. We do it because we don't like ourselves. We do it because we don't like what we are––not who.
(And of course, we often wear masks on Halloween.)
In another example, my ADHD diagnosis has been a gift, but it wasn't easy to open on my own. I know what it's like to question every step I take, often stumbling over uneven pavement. Without support, our feelings lead to thoughts. Thoughts to feelings. And the thought loop continues, destroying seemingly everything in its path.I believe in breaking the cycle: Turning things around so that your thoughts lead your feelings––and are not a bi-product.
PLEASE BE YOU!
I'm a San Diego native, though I've been bobbing between Portland, OR and Seattle, WA since 2011 when I first pitched a tent in the PNW.
CURRENTLY, I AM LICENSED IN BOTH OREGON AND WASHINGTON.
I attended Lewis & Clark College for a BA in Psychology. During my final year, I mediated a mindfulness group at Portland Mindfulness Therapy. From there, I became interested in the intersection of meditation and ADHD.
(It turns out they don't always get along..)
After college and into my early years as a graduate student, I worked as a full-time features reporter for a tiny, old-fashioned print newspaper. I was also a freelance journalist with op-eds and cultural pieces published in the likes of The Washington Post, Willamette Week, Vice, HuffPost Queer Voices, The Oregonian, and more.
Often, I was commenting on my experience with my sexual orientation. It was an interview with a comedian that led me to change course and pursue a career in counseling. During an interview for my local alt weekly, my first question I threw out there was "So how is your depression coming along?"
That's when I knew.
(Also, I don't still phrase things like that.)
In 2020, I received my Master's in Education in Counseling (MaEd) from social justice-oriented Seattle University in glittery Capitol Hill.
From 2019-2023, I worked as a counselor at Pacific Mental Health. In 2023, I founded Prologue Counseling with the goal of helping (gay) creatives struggling with ADHD, identity issues, self-esteem, anxiety, relationship problems, and minority stress through cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and a form of art therapy that presents itself through creative writing. Depending on your interest, we can experiment with one or all of these modalities.
I like to infuse short, optional creative writing exercises to help clients become the main protagonist within their own life story.
